About
Trail Verbier St Bernard by UTMB runs in July from Verbier, in the Swiss Valais. The X-Alpine is a 140 km loop with 9,000 m of climbing that leaves Verbier at ten at night on the Friday, drops through Sembrancher and Champex to La Fouly, passes briefly into Italy to reach the hospice at the Grand St Bernard pass, and comes back over Bourg St Pierre and the Cabane Brunet. The X-Traversée starts at La Fouly, on the X-Alpine's own course, and covers the 77 km from there to the same finish.
It is a UTMB World Series event, so a finish earns Running Stones toward the Chamonix lottery, and the weekend adds a 43 km marathon from Bruson and a 28 km race. The X-Alpine is the weekend's hard ticket: 559 runners started it in 2026 and 228 finished, against 1,112 finishers from 1,481 starters on the X-Traversée.
Course
The X-Alpine covers 140 km with 9,000 m of climbing, starting and finishing in Verbier, on a 41-hour-30 limit. The X-Traversée covers 77 km with 5,100 m from La Fouly to Verbier, on 26 hours, and starts in waves assigned by UTMB Index, with a two-hour penalty for anyone starting in an earlier wave than the one they were given. Both races cross into Italy on the way to the Grand St Bernard, and runners have to carry accident insurance valid in Switzerland and Italy.
How to register
Entry is direct purchase on the race's own website, without pre-registration, without a lottery and with no waiting list. The 2026 cycle opened on 22 September 2025 with a 48-hour priority window for runners holding a UTMB Index, then ran to everyone until the races sold out. Nothing has been published yet about the 2027 window.
