About
The Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run loops through the San Juan Mountains connecting Silverton, Telluride, and Ouray, crossing thirteen major passes and the 14,048-foot summit of Handies Peak. The direction alternates each year: clockwise years climb "up the walls and down the ramps," counterclockwise years reverse it.
Billed as a post-graduate run rather than a race, it holds a 48-hour cutoff and finishes when runners kiss the Hardrock, a painted boulder in Silverton. Weather, altitude, and terrain make it one of the most demanding hundred-milers anywhere.
Course
A loop over thirteen major passes, most above 12,000 feet, crossing the 14,048-foot summit of Handies Peak near the midpoint. The average elevation is over 11,000 feet, and the direction alternates each year; 2026 runs clockwise.
How to register
Entry is by lottery each December, with separate pools for veterans, previous finishers, and never-started applicants. A qualifying finish at one of a short list of designated races is required. The field is capped near 146 runners, so odds for first-time applicants are long and many wait years.
