About

The North Downs Way 50 is a point-to-point along the North Downs Way National Trail, from Farnham at the western end of the North Downs to Knockholt Pound on the edge of Greater London. It runs past Puttenham and Guildford, out over Ranmore Common, up the steepest climb of the race to the top of Box Hill, down the far side and back up Colley Hill, then on through Merstham to Oxted and a final eight miles to the finish.

The course is the first 50 miles of the North Downs Way 100 and holds 5,600 feet of climb against a 13-hour cutoff, with six aid stations and a marked course. It starts at 7:45 a.m. and 2027 is the sixteenth running. It is the second leg of Centurion Running's Grand Slam of 50s, run in the same calendar year as the South Downs Way 50, the Chiltern Wonderland 50 and the Wendover Woods 50.

Course

A point-to-point from Farnham Leisure Centre in Surrey to the playing fields at Knockholt Pound in Kent, on the North Downs Way National Trail. The route passes Puttenham and Newlands Corner above Guildford, crosses Ranmore Common, takes the steepest climb of the race to the top of Box Hill, drops down and climbs Colley Hill to Reigate Hill, then runs through Caterham and Botley Hill for the last eight miles. 50 miles with 5,600 feet of climb, six aid stations, 80 percent trail and 20 percent road, a 7:45 a.m. start and a 13-hour cutoff. The course is marked.

How to register

Entry is first come, first served through Centurion Running for a field of 300, with a further 40 places held for 2026 volunteers, and the register page says a waiting list operates once the initial places are sold. Entries for 2027 opened at 19:00 on 21 June 2026 and close on 30 April 2027. A place needs a marathon-distance finish inside that race's own cutoff, and unqualified runners may enter but are contacted about eight weeks out to verify their plans. The fee is 118 pounds for UK Athletics members and 120 for unattached runners. Runners can also enter as part of Centurion's Grand Slam of 50s, which covers all four of its 50-mile races.
