About
Rothrock by UTMB is run in the Rothrock State Forest in central Pennsylvania, from the Tussey Mountain ski area outside State College. Its ultra is the 50K, which starts at 8 a.m. on the Saturday and covers 53.3 km with 1,550 m of climbing on a 12-hour limit. The course winds through Bear Meadows Natural Area, a National Natural Landmark, then follows the Tussey Ridge Trail with long views over the surrounding ridges, passing the race's beer-tap aid station and crossing the log bridges of the Three Bridges Trail.
The top three men and women in the 50K earn an automatic place in the OCC at UTMB Mont-Blanc. The weekend also has a 25K.
Course
The 50K's aid stations are North Meadows (9.0 km), Beer Tap (15.2 km), Treaster Kettle (18.7 km), Bear Meadows (24.9 km) and Sand Springs (32.5 km), with the finish back at Tussey Mountain. The race's GPX file and aid station chart for 2027 are still the 2026 versions, which the organiser says are subject to change. The 25K is shorter than an ultra.
How to register
Entry for 2027 is open, first come, first served, at a price the organiser says can rise at any time; a charity bib is sold through the UTMB Community. The registration page has not yet published a 2027 closing date.
