About
Trail Alsace by UTMB grew out of a group of friends who wanted to run from Mont Sainte-Odile to the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, and its first edition was in 2023. Every race finishes at the ramparts of Obernai. The Ultra-Trail des Chevaliers starts at the Lac Blanc ski station, above 1,100 m in the Vosges, at 5 p.m. on the Friday and covers 158 km on a 40-hour limit, past the Tour du Faudé and over the Brézouard, along the ridges to Aubure, the highest village in Alsace, then by the Haut-Koenigsbourg and the ruined castles of Bernstein and Landsberg.
The Ultra-Trail des Païens (108 km) starts in Orschwiller among the vineyards and climbs to the Haut-Koenigsbourg, then runs through castles and half-timbered villages to Mont Sainte-Odile and its pagan wall and the Heidenkopf, finishing through Rosheim. Both are Western States 100 qualifiers.
Course
The weekend's Trail des Celtes measures 47 km and its other races are shorter still.
