About

Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB runs each May in Blue Mountains National Park, about two hours west of Sydney. The UTA100 is the race the event was built around, a 101 km loop from Scenic World in Katoomba that drops into the Jamison Valley, runs the Six Foot Track, and comes back up the Furber Steps to finish where it started. The UTAMiler starts a day earlier at Govetts Leap in Blackheath and covers 161.1 km before finishing at the same place, and the UTA50 shares the second half of the 100 km course.

The fields are the largest of any English-language race on the UTMB World Series calendar. In 2026 the UTA100 started 1,652 runners and finished 1,394, the UTA50 started 2,345 and finished 2,274, and the UTAMiler started 438 and finished 327. Shorter 22 km and 11 km races run alongside them, and the organisers put the whole weekend at more than 8,000 runners.

Course

Three ultra distances, all finishing at Scenic World in Katoomba. The UTAMiler covers 161.1 km with 7,200 m of climbing from Govetts Leap Carpark in Blackheath, on a 44 hour 30 minute limit. The UTA100 is a 101 km loop from Scenic World with 4,400 m of climbing, on 28 hours. The UTA50 covers 51 km with 2,400 m, on 14 hours 30 minutes. All three use the sandstone escarpment trails, ladders and stairs of Blue Mountains National Park, and mid-May is late autumn in New South Wales.

How to register

Entry is first come, first served rather than a ballot. Runners holding a valid UTMB Index get a priority window ahead of general entries, and the races sell out; entries have opened in mid-September for the following May. The UTA100 and UTA50 set no prerequisite, though race results are used to seed start waves. The UTAMiler asks for an official 50 km or longer finish from the two years before the race, uploaded by a stated cut-off date; a runner who does not meet it is moved into the UTA100.
