About

Monte Rosa WalserWaeg by UTMB runs in July in the Aosta Valley and finishes at Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in the Walser-speaking Lys valley below Monte Rosa. Les sentiers des Valdôtains, the SDV, is the long race: 120 km with 8,200 m of climbing from the city of Aosta, crossing Saint-Barthélemy and Antey-Saint-André and passing under the Matterhorn at Breuil-Cervinia. The Monte Rosa Trail, the MRT, covers 82 km with 6,300 m from Pont-Saint-Martin at the mouth of the valley.

It is a UTMB World Series event, so a finish earns Running Stones toward the Chamonix lottery. The race took the UTMB name in 2025 and ran under its own names before that, so 2026 was only its second UTMB-branded edition; the SDV finished 422 of 664 starters that year and the MRT 724 of 982. The weekend adds a 43 km, a 35 km, a 15 km and two junior races, and the whole event is held inside the Aosta Valley.

Course

The SDV covers 120 km with 8,200 m of climbing from Aosta to Gressoney-Saint-Jean, on a 36-hour limit, by way of Saint-Barthélemy, Antey-Saint-André, Breuil-Cervinia, Champoluc and Gressoney-La-Trinité. The MRT covers 82 km with 6,300 m from Pont-Saint-Martin, on 25 hours, through Gaby, Brusson and Champoluc to the same finish. Nineteen Aosta Valley communes host the courses and neither race leaves Italy.

How to register

Entry is direct purchase on UTMB's own registration store, without pre-registration and without a lottery, and there is no waiting list and no reopening. Registration for 2027 opened on 18 August 2026 at 11:00 CEST for runners holding a valid UTMB Index, and opens to everyone on 20 August 2026 at 11:00 CEST, running until the races sell out; no closing date is published. The 2027 places are €220 for the SDV and €160 for the MRT, and both are open to runners of 20 and above. Runners from the Aosta Valley keep the early-bird price until 8 February 2027. Every entry has to be validated with an Italian medical certificate before a bib is handed over.
