Eastern States 100 loops 103 rocky miles through the canyons of the Pennsylvania Wilds, billed as the circumnavigation of the Lost and Bewildered River. It starts at 5:00 a.m. from the Little Pine Creek valley near Waterville, climbs more than 20,000 feet, and the race itself advertises a finisher rate of about 49 percent.
Runners choose between two divisions: Supported, with crew and pacers at designated aid stations, or Unsupported with neither. Entry opens each October 1 on RunSignUp and requires a trail 50K or longer, and a finish counts as a Western States 100 qualifier.
Course
A 103-mile loop with more than 20,000 feet of gain on the rocky, steep trails above Pine Creek and its tributaries, starting and finishing on Little Pine Creek Road near Waterville. 5:00 a.m. Saturday start; about half the field finishes in a typical year.
