About

The Trailway Trail Race takes its name from the Trailway, the path that links the two units of Lake Somerville State Park between Austin and Houston. The race stays in the Birch Creek unit and runs a 15.5-mile lap out past Wolf Pond and back, which the 50K covers twice. Much of it is open ground beside the water, the rest canopied forest, and the finish is on the lake's beach.

The 50K starts at 7:00 a.m. alongside the marathon and the marathon ruck, with a 10-hour limit and the course closing at 5:00 p.m. Shorter distances go off behind it through the morning. The organiser describes the terrain as gently rolling and mostly flat, with hard-packed rooted sections and loose sand, and publishes no elevation figure for the course.

Course

A 15.5-mile lap in the Birch Creek unit of Lake Somerville State Park, run twice for the 50K, through the Old Hickory, Wolf Pond and Honeybee aid stations and back to Cedar Elm at the start and finish. The 50K follows the marathon route and goes a little over a mile further past the Wolf Pond aid station before turning. The organiser's own course-map widget publishes GPX and elevation profiles for the marathon, 10K and 5K but not for the 50K, and states no elevation gain for any distance.

How to register

Entry is first-come sign-up on RunSignUp, with no lottery, no qualifying standard and no published field cap. The 50K is $120, entry opened on July 13, 2026 and closes at 7:05 a.m. on race morning, and the price rose on September 16 and again on October 1. Registration also collects $10 for one day of park access; runners staying longer pay the rest at the gate.
