About

The Rocky 50 runs at Huntsville State Park in east Texas, starting from Raven Lodge on the edge of Lake Raven and winding through most of the park on the loop the Rocky Raccoon 100 uses. It is gently rolling, often near the shore, with no steep climbs and, as the organiser puts it, lots and lots of roots.

The 50 mile covers three 16.7-mile loops. The 50K runs a shortened 14.6-mile first lap and then one full loop. The 50 mile goes off at 7:00 a.m. and the 50K at 7:30, both must be on their last lap by 4:40 p.m., and the course closes at 9:30 p.m.: fourteen and a half hours for the 50 mile, fourteen for the 50K.

Three stations serve the loop. Tyler's is the start, finish and lap turnover, Nature Center comes next, and Dam Nation is the only place drop bags go. The organiser puts the climbing at roughly 1,250 feet per full lap with equal loss, and publishes no total for either distance.

Course

Three 16.7-mile loops for the 50 mile; a 14.6-mile short first lap plus one full 16.7-mile loop for the 50K. The organiser's aid-station chart puts them at 50.07 and 31.33 miles. Aid at Tyler's (start, finish and lap), Nature Center and Dam Nation, each hit three times by the 50 mile and twice by the 50K, with Dam Nation the only drop-bag point and bags taken the evening before. A fourth station, Bridge, is set up for the half marathon, and the race tells the ultra fields not to expect or rely on it. Climb is given per lap, roughly 1,250 feet of gain and equal loss, and never as a per-distance total. Pacers are allowed after the 4:40 p.m. last-lap cutoff, and for the whole race by runners 60 and over. Results and course records are published under the older name Rocky Raccoon 50.

How to register

First-come sign-up on RunSignUp, with no lottery and no qualifying standard. The organiser states a cap without giving a number: "Due to a limited amount of space at Huntsville State Park, all Rocky 50 races have a participant cap." Entry for February 2027 opened on February 19, 2026 and closes on race morning, at 8:10 a.m. for the 50 mile and 8:40 for the 50K. The 50 mile was $160 and the 50K $144 through September 21, 2026, both rising in steps to $189 and $168 by race day. January 5 is the deadline to be sure of a shirt.
