About
Gauja Trail by UTMB runs through Gauja National Park in northern Latvia, and its ultras finish in Rožu Square in the medieval town of Cēsis. The 100K is 91 km with 2,200 m of climbing on an 18-hour limit. It starts at Sigulda's New Castle on the Saturday morning with a loop that runs up the Sigulda bobsleigh track, then follows the forested Gauja valley by the sandstone cliffs of Līgatne to Cēsis, crossing a couple of ski slopes before the finish.
The 50K (53 km, 1,200 m) starts on the Sunday in Ratnieki, a nineteenth-century paper-mill village of wooden houses near a Soviet-era bunker, loops through Līgatne and runs to Cēsis over the same ski slopes, on an 11-hour limit.
Course
In 2027 the 100K starts at 7:30 a.m., half an hour later than in 2026, and the 50K at 9 a.m. against 8:30. The weekend's 20K, Nordic walking, 10K and youth races are shorter than an ultra.
How to register
Entry for 2027 is not open yet. For 2026 it opened to UTMB Index holders first and then to everyone, first come, until the races sold out, with no lottery.
