Bucovina Ultra Rocks by UTMB

A UTMB World Series weekend in the Rarău and Giumalău mountains of Bucovina, northern Romania, each July: the 114 km Ultra Rocks and the 72 km Four Summits, both out of and back to Câmpulung Moldovenesc.

About

Bucovina Ultra Rocks runs on the hiking trails of the Rarău and Giumalău massifs above Câmpulung Moldovenesc in northern Romania, and both of its ultras start and finish on the town's central plateau. The Ultra Rocks, sold as the 100M, is 114 km with 7,000 m of climbing on a limit of 32 hours 30 minutes. It starts at 11 p.m. on the Friday with a short loop of the town, climbs through the night past the Pietrele Doamnei to the Moara Dracului gorge and the old-growth Slătioara forest, and reaches Rarău again at dawn before dropping to Zugreni. The second half crosses Pietrosu Bistriței, passes the Rusca drop-bag station, climbs Giumalău twice by Valea Putnei and the Transrarău road, and comes home over Runc.

The Four Summits, sold as the 100K, is 72 km with 4,600 m and starts at 6 a.m. on the Saturday. It takes in Rarău, Pietrosu Bistriței, Giumalău and Runc, passing the Adam and Eve rocks on the Transrarău on the way back. From 2027 the Ultra Rocks is a Western States 100 qualifier.

Course

The Four Summits has a 20-hour limit. The weekend's Lady's Rocks (48 km), Rocky, Radical, Rumble Rock and Runc Challenge are shorter than an ultra.

How to register

Entry for 2027 is first come, first served, with no lottery and no waiting list. It opened to UTMB Index holders on September 16, 2026 and to everyone two days later, and stays open until July 4, 2027 or until the races sell out. Romania does not require a medical certificate.
