About
The Montane Lakeland 100, the Ultra Tour of the Lake District, loops the whole of the Lakeland fells from Coniston: south through the Dunnerdale fells, Eskdale, Wasdale, and Buttermere to Keswick, then back by Matterdale, Haweswater, Kentmere, and Ambleside. The course is branded 100 miles and measures about 105, with roughly 6,300 meters of ascent, a 6:00pm Friday start, and a 40-hour limit that still defeats 40 to 50 percent of the field most years.
The Lakeland 50 runs the second half of the same course from Dalemain on Saturday morning, and the two races share the Coniston finish and the biggest race-weekend atmosphere in UK ultrarunning. Live GPS tracking on Open Tracking draws a large following each July.
Course
A clockwise circuit of the Lake District on public bridleways and footpaths, avoiding the popular summits in favor of the valleys and passes between them. Fourteen staffed checkpoints; winners run close to 19 hours and the limit is 40. The 50 starts at Dalemain and covers the final 50 miles of the same route to Coniston.
How to register
Entries open in the autumn and sell out almost immediately; the 2026 races are full with no waiting list. Both races require self-sufficient navigation between checkpoints.
