The start was pushed back two hours on the morning of the race, to 7:45 p.m. from Chamonix, and the course was cut. UTMB said thunderstorms were forecast over the massif late on Friday and that starting two hours later put runners on the first high points after the risk had dropped. The route no longer passed the Pyramides Calcaires above Les Chapieux, and the climbing came down from 9,900 meters to 9,700 over the same 174 km. The finish closed at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, which is the figure the timing system enforced; the race page states a 45 hour 30 minute limit, which would have closed it a quarter of an hour earlier, and 16 runners finished after it, the last in 45:39:06.

How it went

Ben Dhiman won the 2026 UTMB in 18:16:29, in front at every timing checkpoint from La Balme at 41 kilometers to the finish, and Blandine L'Hirondel won the women's race in 21:54:49 after being 82nd overall at Les Contamines. Baptiste Chassagne was second and Caleb Olson third, split by 46 seconds over 174 kilometers, and Rachel Entrekin and Emily Schmitz completed the women's podium.

UTMB pushed the start back two hours on the morning of the race for forecast thunderstorms and cut the Pyramides Calcaires out of the course, which took the climbing from 9,900 meters to 9,700. 1,680 runners finished of the 2,407 who started, 267 of them women from 419 women who set off. The barriers took most of the rest in Italy and Switzerland: 121 runners left the course at Arnouvaz, 101 at Courmayeur and 81 at La Fouly.

The race lost most of its best-known names before halfway. Fuzhao Xiang stopped at Les Contamines at 32 kilometers, and Rod Farvard, Vincent Bouillard, Josh Wade and Courtney Dauwalter all stopped at Lac Combal at 68 kilometers inside half an hour of each other early on Saturday morning. Jonathan Albon and Chris Myers went out at La Fouly, and Zach Miller reached Vallorcine, 18 kilometers from Chamonix, before he stopped.
