How it went
Careth Arnold became the first American to win the TDS, taking the women's race in 22:58:52 on a course cut back for landslides and storms. Both pre-race favorites, Ida-Sophie Hegemann and Manon Bohard Cailler, dropped, and Arnold ran the final 20 miles more than an hour clear. Hélène Dassy was second; Elise Delannoy moved into third after the original third-placer was unranked for a route error. Arnold had been second at the High Lonesome 100 five weeks earlier.
Antoine Charvolin led a French sweep of the men's podium in 18:22:17, ahead of Gautier Airiau and Léo Rogaume. Not a UTMB World Series final like the OCC and CCC, the TDS is the festival's rugged, technical opener and sent nearly 2,000 runners out from Courmayeur just before midnight.
