Leadville Trail 100 2026

Saturday, August 22, 2026 · Completed

Rerouted for the Willow Fire, which closed Hagerman Pass Road, Sugarloaf Mountain and Powerline. Runners now head west out of Leadville and around Turquoise Lake, turn, come back east around the lake, and rejoin the traditional course into Outward Bound: May Queen is gone, Carter Summit and Turquoise Lake Dam are new, and there are twelve aid stations and three crew locations. Hope Pass, the Winfield turnaround, the 4 a.m. start and the 30-hour cutoff all survive. The distance and climb shown are the race's own published figures for the rerouted course, and it has revised the climb three times in race week: posted with the map on August 13, lowered on August 18, raised on August 19, and lowered again on August 20.

How it went

Adrian Macdonald won the 2026 Leadville Trail 100 in 15:47:23, a third win here after 2021 and 2022, and Mckendree Hickory won the women's race in 19:39:12, tenth overall. Matthew Zupan was second man in 16:15:25 and Tim Tollefson third in 16:45:14, and Jacquie Mannhard was second woman in 20:28:37 with Emma Wood third in 20:33:33.

Macdonald took the lead on the climb to Hope Pass outbound and was never headed. The women's race turned over twice in its last twenty miles. Ailsa Macdonald was the first woman through Outward Bound at mile 78, in 15:24:20; by Merilee's Corner at mile 89 Hickory led her by seventeen minutes; and in the ten miles after that Mannhard and Wood came past too, leaving her fourth in 20:42:07.

It was the first running of the course the race rebuilt around the Willow Fire closures, which loops Turquoise Lake in place of Sugarloaf and Powerline and which the race puts at 99.7 miles.

387 of 656 starters finished inside the 30-hour cutoff, 109 of them under 25 hours.
