About
The Chianti Ultra Trail by UTMB races through the wine country between Florence and Siena: the flagship Ultra Trail Chianti Castles covers about 120 kilometers and 5,200 meters of climbing on the strade bianche, vineyard tracks, and forested hills around Radda in Chianti, with a 4:00 AM start. The top two men and women earn Golden Ticket entries to the Western States 100, which has quickly made the March date one of the strongest early-season fields in Europe.
The event is part of the UTMB World Series, with a 73 km, 46 km, 20 km, and a 10 km wine run sharing the weekend.
Course
A loop through the Chianti hills from Radda in Chianti, about 120 kilometers with 5,200 meters of gain, on a mix of strade bianche gravel, vineyard and olive-grove tracks, and singletrack past the region's castles. The 2027 edition is billed at 123 km.
How to register
Registration opens through UTMB. The Ultra Trail Chianti Castles is a Golden Ticket race: the top two men and women earn automatic Western States entry, with roll-down to fifth, and finishing under 24 hours qualifies for the Western States lottery.
