About
The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB race the most rugged section of the Western States Trail: from China Wall through Deadwood, Devil's Thumb, the Swinging Bridge, Michigan Bluff, and Foresthill, past the Rucky Chucky river crossing, to a finish in downtown Auburn, the self-styled Endurance Capital of the World. The 100K is a Western States Super Golden Ticket race, with automatic Western States entries for the top three men and women, so its April date draws one of the deepest 100K fields in the country.
The event is part of the UTMB World Series and a dual qualifier: finishers earn Running Stones for the UTMB World Series Finals lottery, and podium finishers in the 50K, 100K, and 100M qualify directly for the Finals. A 100-mile, 50K, and 25K run the same weekend on neighboring sections of the trail.
Course
The 100K starts at China Wall at 5:00 AM and covers 62.1 miles with about 12,300 feet of climbing, dropping through the canyons of the North Fork American River on Western States Trail landmarks (Deadwood, Michigan Bluff, Foresthill, Rucky Chucky) before the finish in downtown Auburn. The time limit is 20 hours.
How to register
Registration opens through UTMB and the race regularly sells out. Finishing earns Running Stones for the UTMB lottery; the 100K is a Western States qualifier and Super Golden Ticket race, with the top three men and women earning automatic Western States entry.
