How it went
Niles Desmarais won the 2026 Backcountry Rise 50K in 5:11:51, and Brooke Hill-Deans won the women's race in 5:18:28, which put her second overall, six minutes and 37 seconds behind him. Women took three of the first six places on the day. Kealan McNally was fourth overall in 5:45:51, sixteen seconds behind Tim Bedford, and Ahna Weeks was sixth in 5:51:31, nine seconds behind John Dore.
A hundred runners finished. The last of them, Keiji Okano, came in at 10:36:59, comfortably inside the 11-hour limit, and nothing the organiser or either results page published suggests the day gave the race any trouble. Daybreak Racing calls this the tenth annual running. It was also the last one on the alternate course: the classic course, which has been out of reach since a 2023 mudslide closed the road past Johnston Ridge, is due back in 2027.
